SCREENING FOR HEALTH – PROJECT SILVERCARE

Project SilverCare (PSC) is an annual health-screening programme jointly organised by students from NUS Medicine, including the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies, and the NUS Department of Pharmacy. We are supported by NUHS Family Medicine residents, St Luke’s Hospital and Fei Yue Community Services to provide our SilverScreen comprehensive geriatric assessment to the disadvantaged elderly community. In doing so, we seek to provide a multi-pronged, holistic solution to frailty, and explore means by which leading frailty research can be applied in Singapore.

Our Vision: Adding years to life, and life to years

Our Mission: To reach out to frail and at-risk seniors, helping them overcome the biopsychosocial barriers to healthy ageing.

Our Strategy: PSC employs a 3-pronged strategy to combat frailty in the elderly population:

  1. SilverScreen: Our annual flagship free door-to-door screening event, providing an assessment of seniors’ frail status, and the contributing factors to their frailty in older age.
  2. SilverNet: Referral of frail seniors to healthcare institutions, community social work partners & allied health intervention programmes.
  3. SilverHomes – Our 1 year longitudinal home visit follow-up programme, whereby multidisciplinary student teams perform.

Monetary donations will be used to support the logistical needs of the SilverScreen event – including but not limited to: screening equipment (e.g. blood pressure monitors), rental of screening venue, and the procurement of goodie bags containing nutritional supplements & other items to incentivise healthy ageing.

We are also hoping to support all our financially disadvantaged seniors with a first free consultation to our allied health professionals & community healthcare providers. In doing so, we hope to better ease our frail seniors into their follow-up process and journey toward a life that is fulfilling in the later years.
