Dr Scott MCALISTER

Visiting Senior Fellow

Dr Scott McAlister is a Visiting Senior Fellow at the Centre for Sustainable Medicine.

Dr McAlister is also a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne. Since 2005, he has worked as a consultant specialising in environmental life cycle assessment (LCA) across a broad range of industries. Since 2009, Dr McAlister has focused on LCAs in healthcare and has authored and co-authored numerous studies examining the environmental impacts of medical devices and interventions.

Building on this work, Dr McAlister completed his PhD at the University of Melbourne on decarbonising healthcare. His current research focuses on integrating carbon impacts into health technology assessments and understanding the carbon footprint of nephrology, surgery, and blood products. Scott is also developing a life cycle inventory (LCI) database of consumables and instruments commonly used in intensive care units and surgical settings.
