Dr Jessamy BAGENAL
Dr Jessamy Bagenal is a Visiting Professor at the Centre for Sustainable Medicine.
With 15 years of experience in the health space since qualifying in medicine in 2009, Dr Bagenal is currently a Senior Executive Editor at The Lancet, one of the world’s leading medical journals. Dr Bagenal sits on the senior leadership group, leads on clinical content and strategy, and champions the research integrity, publication ethics, and open access policies of The Lancet Group. She drives thought leadership through writing editorials and comments, speaking at conferences and events, and moderating and convening discussions on key health topics. Dr Bagenal leverages her background as a surgeon, a National Medical Director’s Fellow, and an editor-scientist to bring a diverse and informed perspective to her work.
Dr Bagenal holds degrees in medicine, public health, and medical anthropology, and has worked in a wide range of roles—from co-founding a medical education company to working as a clinician and senior leader in global health publishing. Her mission is to improve the health of people and the planet, with a focus on women and health, technology and health, and climate and health—particularly sustainable and resilient health systems.
