Aruzhan (Aru) Shalabayeva
Aruzhan (Aru) Shalabayeva is a research assistant at the Centre for Sustainable Medicine. She is part of the Centre’s Health System Carbon Analytics team, focusing on baselining projects. Before joining CoSM, Aru worked across various sustainability roles, honing her skills in carbon analytics and biodiversity-related risk and impact mitigation in Singapore and Southeast Asia.
Aru graduated from Yale-NUS College with a degree in Environmental Studies. Her honors thesis employed a Saidian framework to analyze knowledge production, epistemic violence, and subsequent physical degradation of nature in the late 19th-century Kazakh steppe. Her academic interests span climate mitigation and adaptation strategies, political ecology, and planetary health. She aspires to continue her work at the intersection of climate and health at the Centre.
