Tan Chuan-Jin is a former Speaker of Parliament of Singapore, Cabinet Minister, President of the Singapore National Olympic Council, and Brigadier-General in the Singapore Armed Forces. He brings over two decades of senior leadership experience across the public, private, and social sectors. He is currently an entrepreneur, leading a payments-solutions multinational and a consultancy and advisory practice focused on leadership, strategy, and systems.
During his time in government, Mr Tan led major national initiatives across the Ministries of Manpower, National Development, and Social and Family Development. His work encompassed policy and system reforms in employment practices, housing, early childhood development, social safety nets, and the modernisation of political and community engagement in the social-media era. He was also a hands-on advocate for environmental sustainability, sports development, and social causes.
In the military, he commanded Operation Flying Eagle, Singapore’s largest overseas military deployment during the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami and served as Chairman of the National Day Parade 2009, one of Singapore’s largest and most complex national events.
At the core of his work is a commitment to creating enduring societal impact. He is particularly focused on reimagining how volunteering and giving are embedded in everyday life, guided by the belief that a culture of giving can transform a nation. In parallel, he is deeply invested in stewarding and mentoring leaders across sectors. Central to his approach are systems thinking, “We before Me” leadership, purposeful stewardship, and the intentional shaping of organisational cultures that enable resilience, adaptability, and service.
