Dr Sandy Mak
Senior Scientist I, Bioinformatics Institute (BII), A*STAR
Sandy has prior experience in laboratory public health, where she led the incorporation of Next-Generation Sequencing workflows for virological surveillance and outbreak investigations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she developed diagnostic tools and conducted genomic epidemiological investigations in Singapore. Sandy also contributed to drafting WHO’s technical guide for genomic sequencing of SARS-CoV-2. Since joining A*STAR’s Bioinformatics Institute (BII), she has been involved in tracking viral phylogenies and curating reports for the ASEAN region. She is also actively involved in regional capacity development efforts though collaboration with the GISAID Initiative as well as the Asia Pathogen Genomics Initiative.
