Rachel James
Senior RCCE Specialist, Anthrologica
Rachel James is a Social Behaviour Change (SBC) Specialist. From 2021-2025, Rachel worked as the Interagency Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) Coordinator for East and Southern Africa, leading the Collective Service partnership between IFRC, UNICEF and WHO at the regional level. In this role she convened the RCCE Technical Working Group, supporting regional and country partners to coordinate RCCE response in public health emergencies, share best practices and lessons learned, and respond to requests for surge and technical support. Rachel worked with partners to strengthen community-centred responses in the region by engaging communities, collecting and advocating for the use of community data including through operational social science and community feedback for COVID-19, Ebola, Marburg, Mpox and cholera outbreaks. Before her role with the Collective Service, Rachel worked in SBC particularly focusing on women’s and children’s health and HIV in Kenya, Somalia, South Asia, the Pacific Islands and Bolivia with UNICEF, WHO, other UN agencies and INGOs. She holds a Masters in Public Health and Applied Anthropology and is a registered nurse. Rachel is currently based in Nairobi and is Anthrologica’s senior RCCE specialist.
