Dr Roy Tapera

Senior Lecturer, School of Public Health, University of Botswana


Dr. Roy Tapera is a seasoned public health specialist with two decades of experience in epidemiology, health promotion, and health informatics. He holds a PhD in Public Health, a Master of Public Health, and a Master of Medical Informatics. He serves as a senior lecturer at the School of Public Health at the University of Botswana. He is a faculty member of the Africa CDC Health Informatics Fellowship Programme, and also an international practitioner, Faculty of Public Health (United Kingdom). He has conducted research on various public health issues, including tobacco smoking and cessation, medical informatics, HIV, cancer, and infectious diseases. He is passionate about health promotion, epidemiology, data analytics, and the utilisation of artificial intelligence in public health and is committed to transforming data into actionable insights that foster progress. He has a proven track record of conducting studies that have influenced drug and substance use policies. Additionally, he has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on engaging and successful research projects with various international collaborators.
