Dr Khoo Yoong Khean

Yoong Khean is a medical doctor by training with more than 15 years of clinical and public health experience. He started his career as a physician in Malaysia in primary healthcare, emergency and trauma medicine, nephrology, cardiology and infectious diseases. Prior to joining Duke-NUS, he was a clinical data analyst in a public hospital in Singapore developing safety and quality initiatives for hospital level programmes and member of several credentialing and privileging committees. He is also active in medical humanitarian work, with several medical service volunteering work during natural disasters. He obtained his Master of Business Administration in 2022.
At Duke-NUS, Yoong Khean focuses on health systems and policy research through various regional projects. One of which is the Asia Pathogen Genomics Initiative (Asia PGI), where he leads the health systems enhancement workstream to support policy development and capacity-building efforts to increase the utility of pathogen genomics for outbreak response and pandemic preparedness in South and Southeast Asia. His areas of research also include access to medicine and regulatory systems strengthening.
