Dr Olszyna received his medical degree from the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. He completed his advanced medical specialty training in internal medicine and infectious diseases at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam. In 2001, he was awarded a PhD in medicine from the University of Amsterdam.
Dr Olszyna has been working in the field of HIV for more than 15 years, both in clinical care of people living with HIV/AIDS as well as in teaching. His clinical interests include HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), treatment as prevention (U=U), viral hepatitis B and C with particular interest in HIV/hepatitis C co-infections. His interests extend beyond HIV to infectious diseases outbreak response. Dr Olszyna served as temporary consultant to the World Health Organisation (WHO) and has been faculty in WHO outbreak response trainings in the Asia Pacific region and beyond. He has been deployed by WHO to Africa to assist in outbreak response in Sao Tome et Principe.
