Dr Claire Blackmore
Dr Claire Blackmore is a Consultant in Public Health with extensive international experience in pandemic preparedness, health emergency management and health protection. She has worked with the World Health Organization across Europe and South-East Asia, providing technical assistance to governments and supporting the development of national pandemic preparedness plans, emergency operations and response systems. Her international experience includes work in Lao PDR, Thailand and multiple countries across the WHO European Region, as well as supporting global initiatives including the WHO Preparedness and Resilience for Emerging Threats (PRET) initiative and the development of global contact tracing guidance. She has also contributed to pandemic preparedness research and policy, including work examining preparedness in prisons and the response to COVID-19. She currently works as a Consultant in Public Health in the UK, providing strategic leadership for health protection, emergency preparedness, public health intelligence and service transformation.
Claire trained in medicine at the University of Warwick and completed Public Health Specialty Training in the East Midlands, UK. She holds an MPH with Distinction from the University of Nottingham, a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, and a Certificate of Completion of Training in Public Health, and is a Fellow if the Faculty of Public Health. Her work combines public health practice, international technical assistance, research and teaching, with a particular interest in emerging infectious diseases, pandemic preparedness and strengthening health systems and resilience. She has published in peer-reviewed journals, presented her work internationally and has experience supporting and mentoring postgraduate students. She is particularly interested in helping students translate public health evidence and theory into practical approaches to complex global health challenges.
