CNA Daily Cuts: Global mpox emergency: How badly will Singapore be affected?
Countries in Asia are monitoring the Mpox outbreak very closely as cases start to pop up in the region. Thailand reported a suspected first case of the new more dangerous strain of the disease on Aug 21. The World Health Organisation said there have been more than 14,000 cases and over 520 deaths in Africa this year, which already exceeds last year’s figures. Given how the world is inter-connected through travel, on Asia First, Hairianto Diman finds out to what extent will Singapore be affected by this health emergency with Prof Dale Fisher, Director, NUS Centre for Infectious Disease Emergency Response & Senior Consultant, Division of Infectious Diseases, National University Hospital.
