Prof Dale Fisher on Suspected Pneumonic Plague Case in Russia | BBC World News
Prof Dale Fisher, Director of the NUS Centre for Infectious Disease Emergency Response, spoke to BBC World News about the unfolding suspected pneumonic plague situation in Russia.
While there is no reason for alarm at this stage, much remains unknown, including whether the illness was plague or another form of pneumonia. The reported case appears isolated, and if it were pneumonic plague, human-to-human transmission is possible, although it is generally less infectious than many other infectious diseases.
The interview also provides context on plague, which continues to occur in isolated cases and small clusters around the world.
