Dr Md. Mahbubur Rahman
Associate Scientist and Project Coordinator, Environmental Health and WASH Health System and Population Studies Division, International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b)
Dr. Md. Mahbubur Rahman is a medical graduate with training in population sciences and public health and over 24 years of experience addressing diverse public health challenges in Bangladesh. He has extensive experience in both program implementation and research. He currently serves as Project Coordinator and leads the Environmental Health and WASH research group within the Health Systems and Population Studies Division at icddr,b in Dhaka.
Dr. Rahman leads a multidisciplinary team of epidemiologists, physicians, anthropologists, social scientists, and statisticians. His expertise spans the design, implementation, and monitoring of primary health care programs, with current research focusing on environmental health, including WASH integration, heavy metals, planetary health, wastewater surveillance, antimicrobial resistance, air pollution, and other global health issues. He has led major large-scale trials, including WASH Benefits (NCT01590095) and a trial on climate change adaptation and health impacts (NCT02746003), funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Wellcome Trust.
Earlier, Dr. Rahman contributed to major public health programs such as the USAID-funded NGO Service Delivery Program under USAID and primary health care, family planning, and immunization initiatives with Pathfinder International, IntraHealth International, EngenderHealth, and CARE Bangladesh. He has strong knowledge of Government of Bangladesh health systems, policies, inter-ministerial coordination, and program management.
