Health Humanities Hub

Health Humanities Hub

Supported by the NUS Medicine Global Education Network, the Health Humanities Hub (HHH) was established within the Centre for Biomedical Ethics to raise awareness of the central, yet under-discussed, role of the non-scientific component of medical practice: the Health Humanities. Here at the HHH, we strive to be the intellectual hub that champions the role of the Health Humanities in good healthcare practice and pedagogy. Through the study and practice of history, philosophy, the social sciences, and the fine and performing arts, the HHH aims to collaborate on, and co-create, localised experiences that bring the humanities to life for all within the larger medical fraternity.

This in view, the HHH was established to support the following:

      1. Increasing visibility of the Health Humanities beyond healthcare ethics and communications skills.
      2. Increasing the availability of Health Humanities research and experiences in service of the wider healthcare community.
      3. Increasing access to Health Humanities practice in Singapore, including funding Health Humanities projects and research.

To do this, the HHH is proud to offer a suite of different activities targeted at different audiences to act upon its vision.

1. Experientials

Once a month, the HHH will collaborate with practitioners of various art forms to run experiential workshops. These workshops are intended to showcase, demonstrate, or otherwise highlight the different ways through which the humanities can enrich the practice of healthcare. These events are open to all faculty, teaching staff and students from medicine, nursing, pharmacy and dentistry.

2. Student Projects

The HHH is also pleased to encourage NUSMed students who are keen to embark on Health Humanities projects of their own to pitch for funds to support their project. These projects can – but need not necessarily – be research projects, developing in-house experiential workshops, or a commissioned art piece.

The HHH is also ambitious in supporting the integration of the Health Humanities into healthcare education for students and professional trainees in Singapore. To this end, the HHH is offering platforms upon which NUSMed teaching staff and students alike can come together to co-create educational initiatives and identify educational priorities that keep in view the importance of the humanities in healthcare. If you are a student, we also encourage you to think about proposing a student project that focuses on designing a novel educational activity.

Please click here to learn more about the fund and the call for proposals.

3. Educational and Faculty Development Workshops

The HHH would like to help build interest and skills in our faculty and teaching staff who are interested to integrate the humanities into the teaching offered within NUSMed. Educational and Faculty development workshops will be held periodically so that like-minded individuals can learn together and from each other.

Please click here if you are interested to attend.
