Who Should Attend
Open to all practising doctors in Singapore. Please note that only doctors registered in Singapore are eligible to sign up for this course.
Why Attend
This programme brings biomedical ethics to the forefront of every doctor’s practice, fostering ethical decision-making and professional integrity throughout the healthcare system.
The programme offers accredited Mandatory Medical Ethics (MME) CME points, a core requirement for all practising doctors in Singapore. Doctors must earn 5 MME CME points every two years to renew their Practising Certificate.

Programme Structure
The programme features five expertly curated topics that address a broad spectrum of biomedical ethics issues, tailored to the practical and professional needs of medical doctors.
Personalised Learning
Participants may choose to register for specific topics that align with their clinical interests and areas of practice.
Assessment & Credits
Participants will earn 1 MME CME point per topic. You must complete the full 60-minute video and score at least 75% of the online quiz.
Learning Platform & Materials
After successful registration, participants will receive an email within three working days containing detailed information on accessing the learning materials on NUS Learning Management System and completing the requirements to earn MME points. Each topic includes a pre-recorded video lecture, presentation slides, compulsory online quiz, and/or curated reading materials to support deeper understanding and application.

• Explain the principles of procreative liberty and procreative beneficence
• Identify reliable genetic selection methods and their clinical implications
• Evaluate ethical arguments surrounding genetic selection, including justice, autonomy, and societal impact
• Apply ethical reasoning to real-world scenarios involving genetic selection

• Identify key ethical values in public health and how they guide action

• Understand the legal, professional, and ethical standards governing innovative therapies in Singapore
• Apply ethical frameworks to assess innovative interventions with a focus on patient safety and integrity
• Analyse landmark legal cases (Pang Ah San v SMC, Gobinathan Devathasan v SMC) to extract ethical insights
• Develop strategies to navigate ethical and legal challenges in clinical innovation

• Understand core patient rights—quality care, dignity, autonomy, and confidentiality—and their importance in safe practice
• Identify reciprocal patient responsibilities and their ethical foundations
• Apply Singapore-specific guidelines (e.g., SMC ECEG) to everyday clinical scenarios
• Evaluate complex situations such as inappropriate treatment requests and abusive behaviour, and respond ethically
• Understand the ethical and legal basis of professional rights and responsibilities
• Apply ethical principles to cases involving consent, confidentiality, and resource allocation
• Analyse conscientious objection cases to balance patient welfare with professional autonomy
Practising Certificate Renewal
To ensure your MME CME points are accredited in time, we recommend completing your MME at least four months before your practising certificate renewal deadline. For more details on renewal requirements, visit the Singapore Medical Council website.
