Experientials
Once a month, the HHH hosts free experiential workshops. Some of these workshops are held on campus, while some are held externally. These workshops are free for all to attend. This page serves to provide an overview of which workshops are being planned, what they entail, and when they are happening.
N.B.: HHH Experiential Workshops are open to faculty, staff, and students from all four healthcare disciplines in NUS: Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Dentistry.

1 July 2026: Medicine and Metaphor
In this writing workshop, Ng Yi-Sheng will explore the complex and evolving relationship between literature and disease. Participants will be guided to write simple poems and/or short prose nonfiction to describe illnesses, states of health and treatment, so as to better understand the importance of language, imagination and empathy in the medical field.
Bio
Ng Yi-Sheng is a multidisciplinary writer of poetry, fiction, theatre and nonfiction. He is a two-time winner of the Singapore Literature Prize, and has published works such as the historical fantasy novel Utama and the short story collection Lion City. He previously taught creative writing at Nanyang Technological University and Yale-NUS. He Instagrams and tweets at @yishkabob, and his website is ngyisheng.com.

17 July 2026: Art Makes Painful Things Beautiful
Feeling emotionally tapped out?
Being a doctor is having a front seat of suffering and it is important for doctors to be equipped to deal with grief or cope with the ongoing losses, that are an inevitable part of the human existence. The creation of art allows make meaning and even bring beauty to difficult experiences.
Join Dr Anne Tan in an experiential ‘mosaic making’ session. This mindful and guided reflection allows the participants to reflect on death, grief and loss, both personally and professionally. Anne hopes that the session will allow the participants to gain new insights and build emotional ‘muscle strength’ so they can live heavier burdens.
Bio
Anne’s paternal grandmother, Katherine, was a nurse. Katherine dignified generosity towards the most vulnerable was part of what inspired Anne to go into healthcare. Anne’s maternal grandmother, Ruby, was a home maker. Ruby was artistic and included her granddaughter in her creative pursuits. Anne is now a palliative medicine physician at HCA Hospice, the largest home hospice provider in Singapore. She enjoys the home hospice work as it is a place where a person (and their family) is cared for in their totality – body, mind and soul.
