Course Overview

This course will cover several Clinical Perspectives in Precision Medicine i.e. the patient journey, the current state, the promises and the potential pitfalls.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, the student will:

  • Know how prevalent genetic disorders are in the population
  • Know how patients present to doctors (symptomatic, pre-symptomatic, asymptomatic)
  • Know how doctors diagnose patients (history, family history, physical examination, clinical criteria, tests)
  • Know how clinical genetic and genomic tests are employed in clinical practice
  • Know how clinical genetic and genomic test reports look like and how to interpret them
  • Know how genetic counselling is applied in clinical practice
  • Know how genetic conditions are treated
  • Know the promises and potential pitfalls in clinical genetics and genomics
