Voluntary informed consent is a pre-requisite for a subject’s participation in research. It is crucial to provide sufficient information to a participant so he/she can make an informed decision about whether to enrol in a study or to continue to participate voluntarily. Obtaining consent involves informing the participants about their rights, the purpose of the study, the procedures to be undergone, and the potential risks and benefits of participation. The participants have the right to “withdraw” or “opt-out” of the study or procedure at any time.

Identifying details (names, dates of birth, identity numbers and other information) of the participants that were studied should not be published in written descriptions, photographs, and genetic profiles unless the information is essential for scientific purposes and the participant (or parent or guardian if the participant is incapable) gave written informed consent for publication.

All manuscripts related to the human subjects or samples drawn from humans should receive informed consent according to the rule of Institutional Review Board of the author’s institute.
