Professor Gominda Ponnamperuma completed his undergraduate medical education from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. After a brief stint in clinical practice at the Ministry of Health in Sri Lanka, he joined the same institute where he graduated to pursue an academic career in medical education. He earned his postgraduate qualifications in medical education from the Centre for Medical Education, University of Dundee, Scotland, UK.
He has served as an invited speaker cum resource person in many international symposia and conferences. Author of several journal articles and books, he sits on the editorial boards of five international medical education journals. Professor Ponnamperuma has also served as an advisor, visiting professor, consultant, and fellow at several reputable academic institutions. He is a postgraduate tutor, examiner, and developer of resource materials for national and international medical education courses. His research interests are in assessment (including selection for training) and curriculum development and evaluation. He is a co-founder of the Asia Pacific Medical Education Network (APME-Net).
