CBmE is a thriving centre for learning, teaching and research relating to ethical and legal aspects of healthcare and biomedical sciences. We study issues of broad international significance with a particular interest in learning for and from Singapore and Asia.

The Vectra Multispectral Imager is an automated high-throughput system which enables slide scanning and analysis for tissue and TMA samples. Features of the system include scanning of H&E, IHC or IF stains with the ability for multi-colour or multi-spectral imaging. An inForm tissue finder software allows the system to automatically segment regions of interest based on user specifications. The quantitative data can be generated and exported to industry-standard formats.

As NUS trains nurses, pharmacists, allied health and social workers as well as doctors, teaching pedagogies are inter-disciplinary, inter-professional and multi-dimensional in nature and prepares our students to work as integrated members of a multi-disciplinary care team. And as part of their undergraduate curriculum, students get to spend a portion of an academic year at some of the best healthcare institutions in the world. There, they are exposed to different cultures and healthcare systems that help them understand the full spectrum of medicine and global health. The Quantitative Proteomics Core at the Cancer Science Institute of Singapore offers cutting-edge quantitative proteomics technology and supports proteomics applications all the way from help with experimental design over sample preparation and mass spectrometry measurement to initial data analysis and data storage. The CHS comprises a simulated Operating Theatre (OT), an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), an Emergency Room (ER), a Paediatrics Acute Ward, a Labour Ward, eight clinical wards, two procedural rooms and 60 consultation rooms. Gas-chromatography mass spectrometry (GCMS) is an analytical method that can separate and identify volatile and semi-volatile compounds. This highly-sensitive technique is being used at WIL@NUS for a number of applications including detection of contaminants like pesticides and toxins in food, establishing flavor profiles of aroma cooking oils and analysis of fatty acid/ triglyceride profiles of edible oils and specialty fats.
