The breast shows a large, firm, tan-coloured, fleshy mass with foci of necrosis. The mass has ulcerated through the skin and is covered by a layer of necrotic slough. The tumour has irregular invasive borders and closely abuts the underlying skeletal muscle.  The residual breast shows whitish areas of fibrosis.
