Dr Derrick Lian completed his basic medical education in the National University of Singapore. Following his housemanship, Dr Lian trained in Histopathology and was accepted as a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists (UK). He then subspecialised in Paediatric Pathology, having trained and worked in KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, before joining the National University Hospital.
Dr Lian is very active in the field of medical education, being involved in both undergraduate as well as postgraduate teaching. Currently, he is the Undergraduate Program Director for the Pathology posting in the Medical School, and is on the curriculum development team and the assessment committee. As a core faculty of the Office for Students, he contributes to medical school admissions, and student life and development, with a focus on the House and Mentoring program in the school. Within the hospital, he is especially interested in interprofessional education to improve communication, teamwork and collaboration, to bring about better patient care.
