first aid <\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Project First Aid (PFA), which started in 2021, aims to empower nursing students to be advocates and educate others on general first aid. As student nurses, we are trained in clinical skills to respond to medical emergencies in hospitals. Equipped with this knowledge, students from <\/span><span style=\"color: var(--e-global-color-text); font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">NUS Nursing<\/span><span style=\"color: var(--e-global-color-text); font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">\u00a0shared their expertise by teaching these skills to others. Being part of PFA not only equipped us with essential first aid skills, but also offered countless opportunities to serve a wide range of communities. Through meaningful collaborations with organizations such as SCDF, Red Cross, Children\u2019s Cancer Foundation, and Fun Fit Fruits, we were able to extend our outreach beyond the NUS community. One particularly memorable experience was the Fun Fit Fruits event, where we had the privilege of teaching migrant workers vital first aid skills tailored to their occupational needs. These experiences gave us deeper insight into the unique needs of different groups in Singapore. Through our interactions and <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">initiatives, we learned how to meet people where they are and to respond more effectively to the realities they face. We would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our staff advisor, Dr. Chen Hui-Chen for her constant encouragement and unwavering support. With her guidance, our team was able to design sustainable, community-empowering programmes while also growing in our own development as nursing students. They also taught them how to differentiate between burns and wounds, when and how to seek medical attention as well as demonstrating safe techniques for lifting heavy objects. They ensured that the content was easy to understand and engaging for the migrant workers. The PFA team was of great support to us during the planning and execution of this event and made valuable contributions every step of the way!
