courses. The cohort size is small and so we had more opportunities to interact with the teaching faculty. The programme also allowed us to take elective courses from other faculties to supplement our learning as nursing researchers. The PhD programme has equipped me with skills to lead research projects and publish academic papers. I enjoyed learning about the rigour of research processes, and I came to appreciate that knowledge is power. I was inspired and hope to generate useful knowledge through research and inform evidence-based practices for healthcare practitioners and in education. In my current role as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Global Nursing Research Centre in the Graduate School of Medicine, I am working on developing novel interventions to stimulate advance care planning within the community. My progress thus far has been made possible by my supportive thesis advisors and robust PhD training. My thesis advisors were world class researchers and excellent teachers who imparted a wide variety of research knowledge and skills. The availability of advanced research coursework such as qualitative research methods, systematic reviews, and intervention research have allowed me to be exposed to different types of research
