The physiology of runners

Dr Ivan Low, research fellow and exercise physiologist from NUS Medicine’s Department of Anatomy, explained the physiology of endurance runners. According to Dr Low, the three main concepts that contribute to performance are maximum oxygen uptake (VO2max), running economy (RE) and lactate threshold (LT), and runners who train daily can use these factors to monitor their progress.
