The 2nd Academic Psychiatry Symposium

The 2nd Academic Psychiatry Symposium, to be held on 25 September 2015, will delve into the theme of depression and building resilience in the millennial generation. Organised by the Department of Psychological Medicine at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, the symposium will be graced by Visiting Professor Frank Verhulst from the Netherlands, a Lead PI for the world-famous Generation R cohort study, as well as specialists from restructured hospitals, voluntary welfare organisations and community partners.
Key topics such as adversity in childhood and its impact on anxiety and depression in children and adolescents, and suicide in adolescents will be covered. The symposium will also carry an update of new findings in perinatal influences on neuro-development. Prof Frank Verhulst will speak on developing an all-round service for children and adolescents with depression.
A round table meeting will follow on 28 September 2015. Hosted by Associate Professor John Wong Chee Meng, Head and Senior Consultant, Department of Psychological Medicine, the round table will look at building the capacity of social-health integration in Singapore. In addition to being a platform for the sharing of best practices, the round table also aims to help shape current services provided to youth and adolescents in key areas of mental health.
