Project Oranges With Love (OWL) 2014
Published: 10 Mar 2014
An interprofessional education event, Project Oranges with Love (Project OWL) was a new initiative that the Social Directorate of Medical Society came up with last year. The project aims to bring together future healthcare professionals to do something meaningful for patients.
Project OWL is in its second year running and this year, apart from including friends from NUS Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies, NUS Department of Pharmacy and NUS Faculty of Dentistry, students from NUS Department of Social Work, Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine were also involved.
Project OWL was held across four days, over five hospitals (National University Hospital, Singapore General Hospital, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Renci Hospital and Changi General Hospital), involving students and staff from the respective hospitals. It brought joy to more than 1000 patients!
Volunteers worked together to present oranges to patients and sang to familiar Chinese New Year tunes. The activities lightened the atmosphere in the hospital and brought comfort to the patients! It was heartwarming to witness from time to time how patients enjoyed the company of the students.
The team would like to say a big “THANK YOU” to everyone who had supported the event in one way or another. We look forward to Project OWL in the years to come!
