In 2002 and at the age of 33, NUS Medicine alumnus Dr Wee Teck Young packed his bags and left private medical practice and the comfort of family and friends, for the war zones of Pakistan and Afghanistan. He has spent more than a decade running a non-governmental organisation – Afghan Peace Volunteers (APV) – helping the needy and promoting non-violence as a way of life in war-torn Afghanistan.

Dr Wee’s idea of happiness is not about acquiring more and fancier things, but spending more time on relationships and people, and healing the world with what it needs most: love.
