Over 200 students from the different medical faculties and schools of the National University of Singapore (NUS) attended the annual Keynote Address on 26 September 2013.

Featuring an informal forum discussion with distinguished panelists from various fields of healthcare, this year’s topic ‘The Public Service Mission for Healthcare’ aimed to enrich students’ perspectives and also foster better understanding of the roles healthcare practitioners in Singapore play in the rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.

This year’s Keynote Speaker and Guest-of-Honour was Permanent Secretary (Health), Mrs Tan Ching Yee.

A variety of complex and pressing concerns were raised by students during the forum discussion, as they shared their views with the panellists and audience. 2nd year nursing student Nurul Afiqah said, “It definitely provided me a more holistic picture of the healthcare sector which has helped me to understand why certain policies are implemented.”

As for Charles, a 4th year medical student, “I attended this Keynote Address to learn more about healthcare from a broader perspective and understand how my role as a healthcare professional will fit into the broader scheme of things.”

The seminar ended on a high note with the audience looking forward to Keynote Address 2014.
