KNOWS<\/strong><\/em> forms the base of the pyramid and the foundation for building clinical competence.<\/p>\r\n

Example: Learner is assessed his\/her knowledge of the principles\/content of basic science knowledge through a multiple choice exam\/similar assessment tools.<\/p>\r\n

KNOWS HOW<\/strong><\/em> uses knowledge in the acquisition, analysis, and interpretation of data.<\/p>\r\n

Example: Learner knows how to, given a patient scenario, utilise the history and physical examination and diagnostic test data to identify the scientific basis of the patient’s condition or initial management plan.<\/p>\r\n

SHOWS HOW<\/strong><\/em> requires the learner to demonstrate the integration of knowledge and skills into successful clinical performance.<\/p>\r\n

Example: Learner shows how to diagnose, develop and implement a treatment plan and effectively explain it to the patient and\/or family.<\/p>\r\n

DOES<\/strong><\/em> focuses on assessment of clinical performance in actual practice settings.<\/p>\r\n

Example: Learner demonstrates the ability to evaluate the patient’s condition and to revise the management plan as warranted and counsel the patient and\/or family.<\/p>\r\n\t
