Speaker: Professor Tatsuya Ohno, Medical Director, Gunma University Heavy Ion Medical Center, Gunma University, Japan

In recent years of radiation therapy, we have witnessed a significantly increasing worldwide interest in charged particle therapy with protons and carbon ions. Carbon ion radiation therapy offers superior dose conformity in the treatment of deep-seated tumours compared wth conventional X-ray therapy. In addition, carbon ion beams have a higher relative biological effectiveness compared with protons or X-ray beams, which are expected to eradicated hypoxic tumours. The objective is to learn clinical outcomes of retrospective nationwide study for bone and soft tissue sarcoma, head and neck cancer, lung cancer, liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, and prostate cancer.
