Speaker: Dr Chai Ping, Clinical Director & Senior Consultant, Department of Cardiology, NUHCS

Effective communication amongst healthcare professionals is critical in ensuring a positive experience for patients and their caregivers. Ineffective inter-professional communication may cause adverse effects not only on safety and clinical outcomes, but also on patient confidence in their healthcare professionals. Feelings of distrust affect patients’ perceptions about their experiences.

All members of the healthcare team share equal responsibility in facilitating timely and positve interactions and communications. Benefits include better care co-ordination in treatment delivery to patients and better teamwork, mutual respect and improved staff morale amongst healthcare professionals. This session discusses how healthcare professionals can play their part in effective inter-professional communication for patient care.
