On 12 May 2017, the Court of Appeal adopted a new legal standard for informed consent in its decision in the case of Hii Chii Kok v Ooi Peng Jin London Lucien and another (“Hii Chii Kok”, CA 33/2016), bringing to life what is now known as the modified Mongomery Test in Singapore law.
Fourteen months on from the delivery of this landmark decision, MOHH and Jardine Lloyd Thomson (JLT) are jointly presenting a medico-legal lecture on the development of the law on informed consent as part of the Continuing Education Intitiative under the Doctors’ Medical Malpractice Insurance Programme. The lecture will address issues such as how the law on informed consent further developed since Hii Chii Kok, what cases are now seen before the Singapore Courts, and how this landmark decision influenced the practice of medicine in the area of medical advice.
