{"id":349,"date":"2020-01-21T07:39:46","date_gmt":"2020-01-21T07:39:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/medicine.nus.edu.sg\/graduatestudies\/?page_id=349"},"modified":"2024-01-11T09:14:53","modified_gmt":"2024-01-11T09:14:53","slug":"course-introduction","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/medicine.nus.edu.sg\/graduatestudies\/education\/master-of-clinical-investigation-old\/course-introduction\/","title":{"rendered":"Course Introduction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;It is only by persistent intelligent study of disease upon a methodical plan of examination that a man gradually learns to correlate his daily lessons with the facts of his previous experience and of that of his fellows, and so acquires clinical wisdom.&#8221; \u2013 Sir William Osler, 1902<\/p>\n<h6><strong>Course Introduction<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>Healthcare professionals are well placed to identify gaps in knowledge that are relevant to the causes, diagnosis and treatment of disease, and to conduct research that will make a significant impact on patient care.<\/p>\n<p>The NUS Master of Clinical Investigation Program was developed by the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in consultation with the Ministry of Health, senior clinician \u2013 researchers from various hospitals and research funding agencies. It has been designed to meet the needs of clinicians and allied health professionals in healthcare institutions who desire to incorporate scientifically sound research into their clinical practice.<\/p>\n<p>The goal of the program is to equip clinicians and allied health professionals with the basic methodologic and practical skills to design and conduct clinical investigations that are relevant to patient care. These include studies aimed at evaluating:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"styled-list sm\">\n<li>new treatments and technologies,<\/li>\n<li>diagnostic modalities,<\/li>\n<li>mechanisms of human disease,<\/li>\n<li>determinants of disease outcomes, and<\/li>\n<li>effectiveness of health services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The MCI program will also provide the foundation for those who may wish to pursue advanced clinical research training, including that leading to a PhD degree.<\/p>\n<h6><strong>Tuition Fees<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>Total tuition fees (<b>for students enrolled in Academic Year 2024\/2025 onwards<\/b>): S$61,912  (*inclusive of Goods &amp; Services Tax (GST))<br \/>\n* GST rate will be 9% with effect from 1 January 2024 respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The payment schedule is as follows:<\/p>\n<table class=\"table table-style1\">\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th colspan=\"2\">Payment schedule for the tuition fees :<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>Year 1 Semester 1:<\/td>\n<td>S$15,478<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Year 1 Semester 2:<\/td>\n<td>S$15,478<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Year 2 Semester 1:<\/td>\n<td>S$15,478<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Year 2 Semester 2:<\/td>\n<td>S$15,478<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul class=\"styled-list sm\">\n<li>In addition to the tuition fees, students will also be charged miscellaneous student fees each semester. Miscellaneous student fees help meet costs incurred by the University in providing services to the student community that are either not covered or only partially covered by the tuition fees.  These services include healthcare for students; facilitating student cultural, social and recreational programmes; and maintaining the shuttle bus service, IT network and other essential campus infrastructure and services.
