Herlens: Turning a phone into a cervical cancer screening tool to save women's lives.

The Problem Cervical cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among women in Indonesia, with over 103 million women at risk.

Yet timely detection remains a challenge due to limitations of current screening methods, particularly in remote and under- resourced areas.

The Solution

HerLens turns a simple smartphone into an AI-powered cervical cancer screening assistant. Healthcare workers capture a VIA (Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid) image, and the HerLens app instantly analyzes it, flagging suspicious lesions with accuracy approaching specialist review—cutting test time in half and removing subjective guesswork.

The Journey

  • November 2023: The Beginning

HerLens partnered with medical experts from Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National Central Public Hospital to test and refine the Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) test, enhancing it with AI for healthcare workers to make more accurate diagnoses.

July 2024: From Vision to Validation

HerLens earned the STIC 2024 Business Grant, validating the potential impact of our women’s health technology. This recognition accelerated MVP development and streamlined the regulatory process.

    September 2024: Building Momentum

    Achieved two major milestones:

    • Passed the first regulatory process with Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National Hospital, paving the way for patient testing
    • Named finalist in Hult Prize Global Accelerator 2024, bringing HerLens into the global spotlight

March 2025: Taking the Next Step

Began testing HerLens with real patients in clinics managed by the OB-GYN Department at Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National Hospital. During this period, HerLens was honored as winner of the National University of Singapore Health Hack 2025.

September 2025: NUS Medicine DATA Accelerator

Graduated from the NUS Medicine Digital Advanced Technology Accelerator, gaining mentorship, clinical validation support, and market access guidance to scale across Southeast Asia.

HerLens bridges the gap in healthcare access, helping healthcare workers diagnose faster and more accurately, making early cervical cancer detection accessible to women regardless of where they live.

    What’s Next

HerLens continues expanding across Indonesia and Southeast Asia, working toward eliminating cervical cancer by giving healthcare workers the tools to detect it early, anywhere.
