The SG70 cohort is part of the continuation of another long-term population-based prospective cohort of ageing study, titled Singapore Chinese Health Study (PI: Prof Koh Woon Puay).\u00a0<\/span>The main objective is to build a Singaporean\u00a0cohort (aged 65-75 years, &gt;2500 subjects)\u00a0for an integrated and holistic approach to examine\u00a0the effects of biological, lifestyle, and\u00a0socioeconomic factors that affect multi-dimensional\u00a0outcomes as Singaporeans transit\u00a0from health to morbidity around the age\u00a0of 75 years. In collaboration with Prof. Koh,\u00a0the CSC will follow up these older adults\u00a0longitudinally for at least four years using\u00a0multimodal assays including neuropsychological\u00a0assessments, brain imaging, and\u00a0digital tracking technology (EMA, Oura, and\u00a0tappigraphy).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\"><strong>HPB Project<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"111\" src=\"https:\/\/medicine.nus.edu.sg\/csc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2022\/08\/Screenshot-2022-08-12-at-5.26.36-PM-300x111.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-5067\" srcset=\"https:\/\/medicine.nus.edu.sg\/csc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2022\/08\/Screenshot-2022-08-12-at-5.26.36-PM-300x111.png 300w, https:\/\/medicine.nus.edu.sg\/csc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2022\/08\/Screenshot-2022-08-12-at-5.26.36-PM-768x285.png 768w, https:\/\/medicine.nus.edu.sg\/csc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2022\/08\/Screenshot-2022-08-12-at-5.26.36-PM.png 804w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Health Promotion Board (HPB) is a statutory\u00a0board under the Ministry of Health with\u00a0the goal of promoting healthy living in Singapore.\u00a0In an effort to tailor its health promotion\u00a0policies and programmes, HPB launched the\u00a0\u201cHealth Insights Singapore (hiSG)\u201d project, a\u00a0population heath study launched three years\u00a0ago to better understand health behaviours of\u00a0Singapore residents using wearable technology.\u00a0Previously, the Sleep and Cognition Lab partnered\u00a0with HPB to analyze data from the working-\u00a0adults cohort of the hiSG study, to understand\u00a0changes in sleep and activity patterns\u00a0brought about by mobility reductions affecting\u00a0the daily routines of many office workers during\u00a0the COVID-19 circuit breaker period. This collaboration\u00a0resulted in a publication that was featured\u00a0as an Editor\u2019s choice in the journal Sleep.\u00a0The Sleep and Cognition lab is looking forward\u00a0to continued collaborations with HPB. This working group investigates structural brain alterations in those at clinical high risk for psychosis.\u00a0The aim is to bring together existing datasets\u00a0around the world (&gt;1000 patients) that have\u00a0recruited individuals according to Structured\u00a0Interview for Prodromal Syndromes (SIPS\/\u00a0SOPS) and Comprehensive Assessment of At-\u00a0Risk Mental States (CAARMS) criteria.\u00a0The Singapore team has contributed the\u00a0data from our longitudinal youth-at-risk study.\u00a0Large-scale meta- and mega-analyses of\u00a0neuroimaging data will be carried out to\u00a0uncover brain alterations in clinical high risk.\u00a0The first paper based on the primary proposal\u00a0from the consortium is published in JAMA\u00a0Psychiatry 2021.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\">SINGER Project<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"110\" src=\"https:\/\/medicine.nus.edu.sg\/csc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2022\/08\/Screenshot-2022-08-12-at-5.26.54-PM-300x110.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-5066\" srcset=\"https:\/\/medicine.nus.edu.sg\/csc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2022\/08\/Screenshot-2022-08-12-at-5.26.54-PM-300x110.png 300w, https:\/\/medicine.nus.edu.sg\/csc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2022\/08\/Screenshot-2022-08-12-at-5.26.54-PM-768x281.png 768w, https:\/\/medicine.nus.edu.sg\/csc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2022\/08\/Screenshot-2022-08-12-at-5.26.54-PM.png 804w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The CSC partners with the Memory, Ageing,and Cognition Centre of NUHS to conduct\u00a0the first multi-lifestyle SINgapore GERiatric\u00a0intervention (SINGER) to reduce cognitive\u00a0decline and physical frailty in elderly at risk for\u00a0dementia. Funded by the large collaborative\u00a0grant from National Medical Research\u00a0Council (2020-2024), we seek to answer\u00a0questions that may be unique to Singapore\/\u00a0Asian phenotypes with respect to vascular\u00a0cognitive impairment.\u00a0Associate Prof Helen Zhou is one of the three\u00a0main theme PIs leading a longitudinal study\u00a0of brain, genetic, retinal, and blood markers\u00a0for prognosis in elderly participated in the\u00a0SINGER. A second validation study on adults in a home-based setting was conducted between Dec 2020 &#8211; Apr 2021, and these results were used to improve Oura\u2019s sleep algorithms.In addition to conducting validation studies, the Sleep\u00a0and Cognition lab has also analyzed data from Oura users\u00a0across 20 countries to investigate how COVID-19\u00a0lockdown stringency affected sleep patterns and resting\u00a0heart rate\u2014a marker of cardiovascular health. The data obtained\u00a0allowed for an in-depth analysis of how smartphone\u00a0usage in the hours before bedtime can relate\u00a0to individuals\u2019 physical and mental well-being. By combining\u00a0smartphone usage information with sleep data\u00a0obtained from wearables and self-reports, the team\u00a0demonstrated how technology use in bed can be used\u00a0to fine-tune sleep identification and enhance the understanding\u00a0of behaviours surrounding bed and wake\u00a0times.<\/span>This collaborative effort has led to recent publications\u00a0in both npj Digital Medicine and Sleep.
