is a key health priority for the ASEAN region, which comprises of countries of diverse historical, political, cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds. Research on the prevalence and burden of mental disorders are sparse albeit increasing, and thus this study aims to provide and overview of the prevalence and burden of mental disorders in the ASEAN region.<\/p>\n<p>Leveraging on data from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2021, the following trends were examined:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Prevalence<\/li>\n<li>Severity<\/li>\n<li>Mortality<\/li>\n<li>Morbidity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Based on this study&#8217;s findings, the prevalence of mental disorder has increased within the region, which may also reflect recent improvements in detection. However, mental disorders now rank among the top ten causes of disease burden in majority of the countries under ASEAN. These findings therefore highlight an urgent need for policies and evidence-based interventions to curb the rise in mental illness.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div
