Programme Highlights
This two-half day online course aims to train allied healthcare professionals to identify and address common ethical and moral issues in the clinical setting. This course is designed to be interactive – consisting of short didactic sessions and online learning. The online learning will provide you the foundation of ethical core values while the didactic sessions will hone your understanding of these values through group discussions, analysis of cases and application of ethical values and principles. You will have an opportunity to share your experiences and exchange ideas with other learners on the application of ethical knowledge to existing work practices.
Objectives:
- Develop a sound ethical and professional approach to practice
- Acquire essential knowledge on duty of care, consent, mental capacity, confidentiality, accountability, integrity and justice, grounded in Singapore’s practice context
- Able to address the ethical and professional issues that occur in daily practice

Trainer Profile
This course will be taught by experienced allied healthcare practitioners who have completed the NECC Educators’ Course in Healthcare Ethics, Law & Professionalism, and an experienced healthcare ethicist from the NUS Centre for Biomedical Ethics.
Course Agenda
1. Approximately 4 hours of online learning videos that cover the following topics:
- Methods and principles of clinical ethics
- Consent and mental capacity
- End of life
- Communication and documentation
- Other contextual concerns
2. Two half-day synchronous online sessions in small groups
Class size is limited to 24 pax (Ratio of 1 trainer to 8 participants).
Throughout Day 1 (AM) and Day 2 (AM) sessions, the workshop covers the following topics:
- Refusal of treatment
- Professionalism
- Respecting patient preferences
- Nutritional care and the patient’s best interests
Pre-Requisites and Assessment
Assessment components include case discussions and multiple choice questions.
Awards and Certification
Participants who successfully complete this course will be awarded with a Certificate of Attendance.
