Welcome to NUS Biochemistry!<\/b><\/span><\/p>

In one of the most enduring Departments in the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, our Department of Biochemistry continues the tradition of being AGILE and succeeding with the School of Medicine and the University in producing engaged and contributing practitioners for a globally disruptive world.<\/p>

The Department undertakes excellence in education and scholarship by being AGILE, focusing efforts in clinical education, lifelong education, and innovation in education.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

A<\/b><\/span>ctionable – Encouraging and supporting new pedagogical outlets to channel the rich academic experience of our colleagues towards the verticals of educational programs and cross-cutting horizontals of pedagogical platforms in NUS Medicine. Practicality in learning outcomes, such as tailoring and achieving Entrustable Professional Activities for our medical students, is a paradigm of an actionable learning and teaching focal area.<\/p>

G<\/b><\/span>ainful engagement \u2013 Ground-up initiatives by colleagues and students in the actualization of the Department towards the achievements of collective goals.<\/p>

I<\/b><\/span>nnovation – Seeding initiatives and growing opportunities to 1) excel in pedagogical practice; 2) capitalize on current strengths; 3) create disruptive synergies within (research informing teaching and learning) and without (collaborative multi-disciplinary colleges).<\/p>

L<\/b><\/span>eading – Being a beacon of pioneering spirit, shaping practice and exemplifying pedagogical leadership in NUS Medicine and NUS.<\/p>

E<\/b><\/span>nabling the future – Readying our students and graduates for the disruptive future.<\/p>

The Department undertakes excellence in research and scholarship through intimate support of our faculty and staff in the NUS Medicine Translational Research Programmes (TRPs). Our scientific strengths and leadership is evidenced by Biochemistry being the academic home of 4 TRP Directors, and by stellar research scholarship in cancer, cardiovascular disease, digital medicine, healthy longevity, human potential, infectious disease, immunology, precision medicine and synthetic biology.<\/p>

In the face of an increasingly challenging landscape, I ask you to join us in uplifting our students towards an endearing future of enriching possibilities. Together, an AGILE Department of Biochemistry is well-positioned to support the vision and goals of NUS and NUS Medicine.<\/p>
