A case against a moratorium on germline gene editing

Following the controversial case of the first gene-edited babies in China late last year, a global moratorium was called for by leading scientists and ethicists to impose a temporary halt to the clinical uses of human germline editing.

In his commentary on The Conversation, Dr Owen Schaefer, Research Assistant Professor from NUS Medicine’s Centre for Biomedical Ethics, shared the reasons that led to the call, and the factors and implications of the moratorium.
