Speaker: Professor Vikki Entwistle, Director, Centre for Biomedical Ethics, NUS Medicine

It is often said that health professionals should work respectfully in partnership with patients and their families, and to empower them to take ownership of their healthcare and health, but it is not always clear how this can be achieved in the diverse and complex realities of health care practice. This presentation will illustrate some of the challenges that health professionals can experience as they strive, for example, to share decision-making and to support patients and their families in managing chronic health conditions. It will open up a discussion about how health professionals can be better supported – and support each other – in navigating well through the challenges of providing patient-centred and otherwise good healthcare.
