Long-term care is a range of services and supports needed to meet the care needs of people that need assistance with the basic personal tasks of everyday life. Wealthy people usually get one on one assistance in their own homes, but congregation of persons in need allows each direct caregiver to serve multiple people. Thus economic factors may favour institutionalisation, against the desires of the person needing care. Learn about PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) model pioneered by On Lok as one solution to keeping frail elderly persons in their own home. Governments around the world face challenging demographic and work force trends that will make provision of traditional long term care models more difficult.
