Dr Matt Whiteman was nominated for the University Award - Outstanding Young Researcher Award 2005 by the Faculty.
Dr Whiteman's Major Research Interests are as follows:

Oxidative and nitrosative stress in human disease: The molecular mechanisms of reactive species of nitrogen
(nitrogen monoxide, peroxynitrite) and chlorine species (hypochlorous acid) induced cellular damage; caspase-independent
cell death, ER stress and mitochondrial dysfunction. |

Molecular mechanisms of bone and cartilage cell death in arthritis and osteoporosis; bone and cartilage biochemistry. |
3. |
Antioxidant / anti-inflammatory / bone protective properties of novel plant compounds, traditional chinese, spices and herbs and their application in human disease. |
