Cell Physiology and Metabolism Programme
The Cell Physiology and Metabolism Program focuses on several important aspects related to normal cell physiological functions and metabolic processes as well as their implications in human health and diseases. Members of this program have rich research experience in studying several important aspects of cell physiology, including (i) Autophagy, which is a major stress response of the cell to various stress conditions such as starvation, oxidative stress and metabolic stress, (ii) Lysosomal function, which has been increasingly appreciated as a key cellular organelle that plays a critical role in many aspects of cell physiology; (iii) Regulation of mitochondrial calcium homeostasis and its functional role in diabetic endothelial dysfunction; and (iv) Cubic membrane and its physiological and pathological functions. This research program aims is to achieve research excellence by providing an stimulating academic environment for all members, by promoting collaborations among the different research labs in the Department and beyond, and by training and nurturing our students and young scientists.
