The Department of Psychological Medicine, National University of Singapore, invites applications for Temporary Worker (Research Nurse) under an ongoing project: Choral Singing for the Prevention of Dementia: A Randomized Controlled Trial - https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT02919748.

Appointment will be made on a 1 year contract basis (80 hours/ month) in the first instance, with the possibility of extension and convert to Specialist Associate (SA). Estimated start date is 3 April 2017.

Research Nurse

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assists the Principal Investigator (PI) and Specialist Associate (SA) to plan, organize and co-ordinate field works.
  2. Home visits in the community to recruit potential trial participants.
  3. Assist in screening activities, this includes scheduling subjects’ appointment, inform subjects of appointment, consent taking and screening subjects for eligibility and biological sample collection.
  4. Conduct questionnaire interview and clinical assessments.
  5. Chaperon subjects for MRI at the Clinical Imaging Research Centre (CIRC), NUS.
  6. Conduct health talk in Mandarin.
  7. Accompany and ensure safety of subjects for choral intervention at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (YSTCM), NUS.
  8. Encourage and ensure subjects’ attendance throughout the 2-year intervention period.
  9. Maintain confidentiality on subjects’ data.
  10. Perform administrative duties and ad-hoc project as assigned by the PI and SA.

Job Specification / Requirements

  1. Qualification: State registered nurse, diploma/degree in nursing or equivalent.
  2. Able to perform venipuncture / phlebotomy.
  3. Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint is a must.
  4. Good written and communication skills, bilingual (English/Mandarin) and preferably able to speak at least 1 dialect.
  5. Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Physically fit to move around.
  7. Keen and able to approach strangers for recruitment.
  8. Able to work independently and within a team.
  9. Work meticulously.

Job Title

Research Assistant (Dementia Prevention Program)

Duties and Responsibilities

The candidate will work on a large ageing cohort study with pilot randomized controlled trials embedded within it. Job scope includes study coordination, liaising with multiple departments and faculties, field work including conducting site visits for questionnaire evaluations and data analyses. Some research experience as well as prior experience with conducting psychological and neuropsychological assessments is preferred; otherwise the necessary training will be provided.

  3. Conduct neurocognitive assessments / clinical dementia ratings
  4. Administer functional MRI tasks and manage brain MRI images
  5. Conduct health talk in Mandarin
  6. Able to provide psychological counselling to trial participants
  7. Maintain Investigator Site File and ensure that all documents are complete and up-to-date
  8. Manage research data, this include data entry and data cleaning
  9. Perform literature review and conduct hypothesis-driven data analysis
  10. Write research papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals

Job Specification / Requirements

  1. Qualification: Master in Psychology or Master in Clinical Psychology
  2. Able to perform intermediate level analysis using statistical software such as SPSS and Stata
  3. Good written and communication skills, bilingual (English/Mandarin) and preferably able to speak at least 1 dialect
  4. Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
  5. Able to work independently and as a team
  6. Work meticulously
  7. Formal musical training and/or experience in choral music will be an advantage

Position 4

Job Title

RESEARCH ASSISTANT (RA) AVAILABLE from Feb 1st 2016 to June 30, 2017 (With the possibility of extension if further research grant is awarded)

Job Description:

The candidate will work on neuropathic pain rodent model that involves transcardiac perfusion, sacrifice animal, behaviour study and animal care. Based on the animal operation schedule, applicant may require giving injection or perform behavior study on weekend.

Additional lab duty will involve immunohistochemical staining of specimen, paraffin sectioning, inventory, ordering/purchasing and routine laboratory needs.

Qualification:

Qualified candidate should have at least a BSc degree, animal handling or histological experience is preferred. If the candidate has no animal handling experience, we will provide the training.

Remuneration & Benefits:

The annual based salary is S$35,856.

Terms of Appointment:

The appointment can commence from Feb 1st 2016 to June 30 2017 and will be 16-month contract.
