Dedicated team

I'm glad to inform you that me and my wife are already at home in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. My wife is getting better. Her wound after Laparotomy had healed well, the swelling of her legs had subsided, her cough also improved and she is breathing well.

On behalf of my family, I would like to say thanks a lot, Dr Jeffrey Low, for your help to give treatment and care and also for everything. You have very high dedication. You are so nice to take so much care of my wife. Thanks also to your team of doctors, clinic and hospital staff, and nurses at Ward 96 for their attention and care for my wife. Also thanks to A/Prof Dr Michael G. Caleb, who had helped me to give advice and arranged for me to see you.

Thanks and may God always bless you all.

                                                            -  Warm Regards,
                                                                                              P. Setiabudi

Swift Delivery

Extracted from CEO's Weekly Update, 21 August 2008

Patient Compliment

I would like to share with you this compliment for Dr Vanaja Kalaichelvan (Consultant, Dept of O&G) and the nurses at Ward 96:

"Thank you for the swift delivery of my 2 boys. I was anticipating surgical pains for this delivery but I did not feel any pain throughout the whole process. My delivery seems so surreal. Nevertheless, holding these 2 boys in my arms makes me realised that they are for real. Thank you so much for all the advice and assurance throughout my pregnancy. As a first-time mother, I have read a lot about pregnancy from books but in reality, it is your guidance that made me understand what I need to do to have a healthy pregnancy, especially when I am a Type I diabetic and having twins... Thank you for everything and please send my regards to the tireless and cheerful nurses at Ward 96 who made my stay there wonderful. "

                                                                      - A. Lee

Kudos to Dr Vanaja and the nurses of Ward 96! Keep up the good work.

Patient Compliment

Here is a compliment from a patient who has expressed her appreciation to the staff of Delivery Ward.

“Words cannot even begin to express our deeply felt thanks and appreciation to all of you for making our experience bearable and even really good, despite all the obvious discomforts. Your expertise and warm moral support have been better than gas or PC thidine, which I’m glad could not be given after all.

It’s wonderful work you do. Continue to be such a blessing to moms and families in some of their most travailing and joyous moments!

                                                                             - HC & E. Loy -

To all colleagues in Ward 22, thank you for giving the very best care to our patients and ensuring their comfort and well-being!

Waterbirth - a wish came true

Mdm JT wrote to express her appreciation for Dr Chong Yap Seng, Consultant, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and the nurses at Delivery Suite, Ward 96 and Neonatal Unit. I would like to share excerpts of her email with you.

“I delivered my baby at NUH…and would like to extend my thanks to Dr Chong Yap Seng and nurses at the Delivery Suite, Ward 96 and Neonatal Unit.

To Dr Chong, for not only agreeing to see to my pregnancy when I transferred to NUH from KKH at Week 31 but also approving our birth plan…when my husband and I suggested trying out waterbirth… he offered to bring us to the Delivery Suite for a tour as well as introducing us to the nurses. The big day came and the delivery was smooth-sailing. When our baby was sent to Neonatal Unit, for suspected case of virus infection, he kept us updated about her well-being and tried his best to get her transferred to the normal nursery as soon as possible. It was beyond his call of duty and it really touched us that he did not mind the trouble. He was like a big brother to us instead of our doctor. His service has left a very deep impression on both my husband and I and we would definitely have him when we conceive again.

To the nurses at the Delivery Suite, thanks for all your attention and help during my delivery…and for all the care and concern showered to both baby and myself after the delivery.

To the nurses at Ward 96 and Neonatal Unit, thanks for guiding me with breastfeeding as well as care and concern showered onto my baby during her stay at Neonatal Unit.

You guys really put “Patient First” and have made my stay at NUH a very pleasant and memorable one. Thank you once again! ”

Teamwork is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.

Positive Patient Feedback

One of our O&G patients was very impressed with the services provided by our O&G team – Dr Vanaja, Outpatient team at Jurong Women’s Clinic and Sapphire Clinic and Inpatient team of Ward 42. She wrote at length, to express her heartfelt appreciation to the various staff.

“I would like to sincerely thank Dr Vanaja Kalaichevan for her caring, professional and prompt response to her patients…I was rushed to the Operating Theatre for an emergency operation. Throughout the whole episode, Dr Vanaja was sincerely concerned, prompt and caring in her duties. Her quick response saved my life. Since the beginning I’ve been seeing her, I have always seen a smile and warmth greeting in her welcome which makes her patients feel at ease. She always takes time to explain the medical conditions patiently and in simple terms so that the patient understands. Ever since my 1st visit to her, I always leave the clinic feeling relieved and contented with her professional explanation even in times of difficult situations.

Not forgetting, the other staff working at the Jurong Clinic. They are ever so smiley and caring…in talking to the patients cheerfully. Same goes for the staff in NUH Women’s Sapphire Clinic. That day when I was rushed to the OT, only my mum was with me and she herself was very upset and had broken down. She then told me the nurses comforted her and even hugged her to console her. They showed much concern not only to their patients but their loved ones too. I really appreciate your staff who go beyond their call of duty to show genuine care.

My stay at NUH ward 42 after my operation was also a pleasant one…The nurses responded to every call very quickly and with a cheerful smile. Never did I come across any staff sulking and that includes the staff who come around to serve food. I very much appreciate the services from NUH… Will definitely recommend this hospital. Keep up your excellent work and a BIG HEARTFELT THANK YOU once again”

Congratulations to Dr Vanaja, and O&G team at Jurong Women’s Clinic, Sapphire Clinic and Ward 42 for their excellent job done in caring for our patients!

On HO good work practice

Extracted from CEO's Weekly Update, 30 March 2006

Patient Safety WalkRounds

During my last Patient Safety WalkRound, I was told of a good work practice adopted by the O&G House Officers in the ward.

An off-duty HO will come back on Saturday mornings for 3-4 hours just to help his/her colleagues with their paper work. This enables the team to concentrate on patient care and ensure that patient safety is not compromised. This work practice is an internal arrangement based on the goodwill among the O&G HOs.

This certainly speaks well of their teamwork and focus on patient safety, well done to the O&G team, especially the HOs!
