Professor Hock Lim TAN is recognized as a pioneer and world authority in paediatric minimally invasive surgery and Paediatric Urology. He is Inaugural Professor of Paediatric Surgery at the University of Adelaide and was responsible for developing the minimally invasive surgery program at the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, before his current appointment. He also helped establish paediatric endoscopic surgery at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Professor Tan serves on the editorial board of Pediatric Surgery International and is on the Board of Governor of the Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia (ELSA)
He has also been invited to speak at a recent Asia Pacific Economic Community (APEC) forum on “The Impact of Modern Medical Advances on the delivery of Health Services in the APEC community” and sits on several advisory boards with the Australian Government.
He was one of the first to describe laparoscopic pyloromyotomy for infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis, adhesiolysis , Laparoscopic excision of Choledochal Cyst and the use of diagnostic Laparoscopy in for Necrotising Enterocolitis.
In paediatric urology, he developed the techniques for the endourological and ESWL management of urolithiasis, laparoscopic nephrectomy, and is recognized as the authority on laparoscopic Anderson Hynes Pyeloplasty in children. He has also described a new lymphatic vessels preserving technique for laparoscopic varicocelectomy.
Several paediatric laparoscopic instruments have been developed by Prof Tan including the “Tan” Spreader, Tan Bipolar Forceps and Tan Pyeloplasty Scissors”. |
