Dr Jimmy So is Associate Professor of Surgery at National University of Singapore and Senior Consultant General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon at National University Hospital, Singapore. A/Prof So was graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He received his surgical training at NUH, Singapore. He obtained the fellowships from Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Royal College of Surgeons of Gasglow and Hong Kong College of Surgeons. In 1996, he received a clinical fellowship from Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School to be trained on surgical endoscopy and laparoscopy.
His specialty is general surgery and his special interests are Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery, bariatric surgery, minimally invasive surgery and hernia surgery. He received further training in Upper GI surgery in Japan and Hong Kong. He was appointed as visiting consultant in Esophageal and Gastric Surgery at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh. He established a multidisciplinary program for Esophageal and Gastric cancers. He also set up a bariatric and obesity surgery program at NUH. He is the Chairman, Organising Committee, 1st Asia-Pacific Gastric Cancer Congress in 2006.
His research interest include biomarkers discovery for gastric cancer, gastric carcinogenesis, phase 2 study on neoadjuvant therapy for advanced gastric cancers and morbid obesity. His paper on “Cost-effectiveness of screening for cancer of stomach using endoscopy” (YY Dan, J So, KG Yeoh) received ASGE Poster of Distinction at the Digestive Disease Week, 20-23 May 2002, San Francisco, USA. |
