The Department
of Medicine, National University of Singapore invites applications for the
below position:
Research Scientist (position open for Postdoctoral
Fellow levels)
Our laboratory
is involved in disease-based research on haematological malignancies
particularly leukemia and multiple myeloma. In these diseases, we are mainly
interested in 2 areas: Genomics and pre-clinical
testing of novel therapeutic agents. We use global genomics as a tool to
understand disease biology, clinical prognosis, biomarkers and therapeutic
targets identification.
The candidate
for the current position will mainly work on one or more of the following
projects:
1) Forward mutagenesis
screen using the sleeping beauty transposon system in mouse to look for cooperating
mutations mediating malignant transformation of MGUS to MM. This work is done
in collaboration with Profs Neal Copeland and Nancy Jenkins from IMCB.
2) miRNA in haematological malignancies in
relation to clinical and genetic parameters using miRNA microarrays. This will
subsequently involve validation of interesting targets identified
3) Genomic and functional characterisation
of myeloma stem cells
Research will
involve basic and advance molecular biology technique, cell culture, cloning,
retrovirus/lentiviral transfection, IHC, and handling animals. Molecular
biology, cell signalling pathway proteins background and experience in
haematological malignancies or immunology will have advantage for applying
these positions. PhD and experience in genetic manipulation (e.g. siRNA,
cloning, mutagenesis, transfection) and genetic techniques (Southern, RACE), as
well as experience with genetic mouse models is preferred.
Interested parties should submit a cover
letter, supported with a detailed resume, areas of strengths
and experiences, and names and addresses of at least THREE referees
immediately to:
